Using an AGM Battery in 1976-1977 KZ900 Models
Both of the AGM batteries that we sell can be installed
in a KZ900......With some mods.....
May seem like a hassle - But to get 75%
to 100% more cranking power, and to lose
the battery vent tube
and the risk of acid stains
on your expensive exhaust - IT'S WORTH IT!
We'll start with the one at the top of the battery page
- The one for the Z-1's and most KZ1000 models......
...... | Unlike the great majority of 1973 thru 1980 Kaw 900 & 1000 models,
the
1976-77 KZ900A/B models used a battery
(YB10L-A2)
that is about 1/2" shorter than the
YB14L-A2
which was used in all Z-1's, and most 1977 thru 1980
KZ1000's.
This was done to accomodate the airbox silencer that ran from the
back of the airbox and over the battery on the KZ900's -
The battery that we sell for $97.95 (at the top of the page you were just on) has the dimensions of the YB14L-A2 To make it fit, you need only to cut off the strap that runs across the top of the KZ900 battery box from front to back..... This can be done while the box is still in the bike with a close-quarters saw - It takes 5 minutes - This will also remove the bracket that holds the emergency flasher relay and diodes assembly. But this can easily be re-located, and 95% of the KZ900's still on the road don't have thier original emrgency flasher switch anyway....... |
The second one shown on the previous page goes in easier, but still requires a minor mod.....
The battery that we sell for $109.95
will slide right onto your battery box - No cutting the top strap off the
box, and you won't have to change battery cables.....
But it's about 1/2 inch wider than the original / conventional battery - - To compensate for this, the battery bracket that secures the battery on the right side must be modified - To be completed - Call for info - Toll-Free 877-271-9292 |
